Dewoitine D.510

The Dewoitine D.510 was the final and most powerful development of the D.500 series, serving as the primary fighter of the French Armée de l’Air in the mid-1930s. It was a sleek, all-metal low-wing monoplane with a fixed, spatted undercarriage. Its most formidable feature was the Hispano-Suiza 12Ycrs engine, which incorporated a 20mm autocannon firing through the propeller hub—the famous moteur-canon. While it was being replaced by retractable-gear fighters like the MS.406 at the start of WWII, the D.510 saw combat with the Chinese Air Force against Japanese invaders and served in secondary roles during the Battle of France.
