The Republic P-43 Lancer was a single-engine, all-metal monoplane fighter developed in the late 1930s. It was one of the first fighters to feature a turbosupercharged engine, allowing it to perform exceptionally well at high altitudes. While it lacked the heavy armament and armor required for European dogfights, the P-43 was a crucial stepping stone in the development of the P-47 Thunderbolt. Many Lancers were delivered to the Chinese Air Force to fight the Japanese, while others were utilized by the USAAC for high-altitude photo-reconnaissance due to their impressive ceiling.
