The Lockheed Vega is an American six-passenger high-wing monoplane built by the Lockheed Corporation starting in 1927. The Vega 5C was the final major production variant, featuring a more powerful Pratt & Whitney Wasp engine and improved aerodynamic fairings. It became famous for its use by a host of record-breaking pilots, including Amelia Earhart, who used a Vega 5B for her solo Atlantic crossing, and Wiley Post, who used his Vega 5C, the “Winnie Mae”, to fly around the world twice. Its revolutionary monocoque wooden fuselage was both incredibly strong and aerodynamically clean for its time.
