The Curtiss-Wright CW-21, also known as the Demon, was an American fighter-interceptor developed in the late 1930s. Designed for the export market, its primary strength was an outstanding rate of climb, intended to intercept bombers before they could reach their targets. The CW-21A was the first production variant, featuring an inward-retracting landing gear and a sleek, all-metal semi-monocoque fuselage. While it saw limited service with the Chinese Air Force, its interceptor DNA eventually influenced later Curtiss designs.
