Following the end of World War II, hundreds of Percival Proctor Mk.III aircraft were declared surplus by the RAF and Royal Navy. These rugged, reliable wooden aircraft were quickly snapped up by civilian pilots and charter companies. Many were refurbished, stripped of their military radio equipment, and repainted in vibrant civilian liveries. The Proctor became a common sight at British and European airfields throughout the late 1940s and 1950s, serving as a fast, four-seat “executive” transport and participating in numerous post-war air races, carrying on the sporting legacy of its predecessor, the Vega Gull.
