Vultee Vanguard Mk.I / J10

The Vultee P-66 Vanguard was an American fighter intended for export just before the United States entered WWII. Originally ordered by Sweden as the J10, the aircraft were embargoed by the U.S. government. They were subsequently offered to Great Britain as the Vanguard Mk.I, but after brief evaluation, most were redirected to China under Lend-Lease. The Vanguard was noted for its sleek, pointed cowling and exceptional visibility. Despite its complicated service path, it remains a fascinating example of early-war fighter design, serving as a primary defender for the Chinese Air Force against Japanese incursions.
