The Curtiss-Wright SNC-1 Falcon was the U.S. Navy’s designation for the CW-22, a two-seat advanced combat trainer based on the CW-21 Interceptor. Known for its exceptional speed and climb rate for a trainer, the SNC-1 featured a modern all-metal monocoque construction and a retractable undercarriage. Over 150 units were delivered to the U.S. Navy starting in 1940, where they played a vital role in preparing naval aviators for high-performance fighters like the F4F Wildcat and F6F Hellcat. Its “wasp-waisted” fuselage and sleek lines made it one of the most aesthetically pleasing trainers of the WWII era.
