The Seversky J9 was the Swedish designation for the Seversky EP-106, a refined export version of the P-35 fighter. In 1939, Sweden ordered 120 of these aircraft to modernize its air defense. While 60 were delivered before the U.S. government placed an embargo on further exports, those that reached Sweden became vital assets for the Royal Swedish Air Force (Flygvapnet). Designated J9, they served with the F 8 wing at Barkarby, defending Stockholm’s neutrality throughout WWII. The J9 was praised for its ruggedness and was eventually transitioned to reconnaissance and training roles, serving well into the early 1950s.
