The Westland Lysander was a British army cooperation and liaison aircraft produced by Westland Aircraft. The Mk.III (SD) (Special Duties) was specifically modified for the Special Operations Executive (SOE). These aircraft were painted matte black and equipped with a long-range external fuel tank and a fixed access ladder on the port side. Operating from secret airfields, they performed incredibly dangerous nocturnal missions, landing in moonlit fields across occupied France to deliver or extract secret agents and resistance fighters.
